Festival of Swimming - Tollcross International Swimming Centre

Last weekend the club attended its first competition in over a year. This was the Festival of Swimming that was run nationally by Scottish Swimming, across 3 pools located in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. We attended the competition as part of F.I.R.S.T, this is a composite squad assembled from the top swimmers of, Bo'ness, Grangemouth and Falkirk.

We entered 5 swimmers from Gold and Silver and a further 3 swimmers from Bo'ness competed who swim with F.I.R.S.T. Across these 8 swimmers we had a total of 29 personal best times, this is excellent and even more impressive considering we had about 2 months to train prior to the competition.

As there were no spectators allowed in the pool the whole competition was streamed on YouTube. If you want to watch along and cheer after the fact here are each of the swimmers' favourite swims. Tollcross pool has 10 lanes running from 0 through to 9, yeah it can get confusing in person as well.

Douglas 100m Frontcrawl in lane 7

A very fast swim from Douglas, who managed to maintain his good technique even as he got tired at the end.

Kayah 100m Frontcrawl in lane 8

Kayah put up a very impressive swim managing to maintain her pace throughout the swim whilst her competitors faded.

Isla 100m Breaststroke in lane 2

Isla has a strong swim with this one and spends the whole race in a fight with 2 other girls to see who would come 2nd and 3rd.

Aidan 100m Breaststroke in lane 8

Aidan has a very nice swim and stakes his claim as 14th fast boy in Scotland with this swim.

Daniel 100m Butterfly in lane 5

This is probably my favourite of the swims; it features Daniel swimming against another Daniel and with a very fierce finish.

Getting back to competition was really good, all the swimmers had a great time, and it gave us a view of how competitions might look for the near future.
